Spring Street Supermarket Owners John and Sally DePriest announced the Cookeville business will close after 50 plus years of business.

Cookeville Resident Opal Garrison said she has shopped at the grocery store her entire life and is saddened by the news.

“I was so upset really and sorry that it was closing, cause I depend on this store for a lot of things,” Garrison said. “I live close by, and it is real handy. I don’t know what we’ll do without it.”

Cookeville Resident Dorita Michewicz shopped at Spring Street for 40 years and said she will miss the family atmosphere.

“I don’t know why they are closing,” Michewicz said. “I saw it on Facebook yesterday, and I just don’t like it. This is a community place. It is not a big chain store and that is what I like about it.”

The store will run weekly markdowns beginning Monday until inventory is depleted. Hours will also change to 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Checks will no longer be accepted as payments.
