Sparta Receives TVA Award For Affordable, Clean Energy

Sparta Electric has won a Top Performer EnergyRight Award from TVA.

Energy Service and Program Vice-President Cindy Herron said EnergyRight partners with local power companies to offer clean and inexpensive energy to homes and businesses.

“We are here to say we appreciate this partnership, and we want to recognize Sparta Electric for being a top performer for fiscal year 2020 as total program energy added which is total electric load,” Herron said.

Sparta was also recognized for 91,000 tons of carbon reduction, according to Herron. Herron said the distinction would not have been possible without the work of the city’s Utility Manager Belva Bess.

“You may think what are these programs? These are the energy efficiency, demand response, electrification programs that we partner with out local power companies on, and they take it to your local markets to offer these programs to your consumers locally,” Herron said.
