The Jackson County School System has seen enrollment growth at every district school.
Director of Schools Kristy Brown said each school has grown by 20 to 30 students. Brown said this was the largest growth the district has seen in quite some time.
“We are able to serve those students and we’re prepared to do so,” Brown said. “I am aware that there are lots of houses being built, there are subdivisions out near our Dodson Branch School and lots of building permits have been applied for, to my understanding. So I think it is going to continue to grow.”
Brown said she was not surprised to see the school system grow, but was surprised by just how much it grew. Brown said there were questions about growth after last school year because of students who stayed in virtual learning all year or left for home schooling.
“Some of the kindergartners, pre-kindergartners that may have been held back because of the circumstances with the pandemic,” Brown said. “That they (parents) are sending them. So we’re seeing growth in those grade levels because of that.”
Brown said the registration numbers will continue to change throughout the year as people come and go from the area. She said the system does take a final number at the end of the school year.
