Putnam Solid Waste Center Paving Bid Prices Meet Expectations

Putnam County has opened bids for repaving at four solid waste convenience centers.

Solid Waste Director Doug Ashburn said prices came in where he expected, with a $155,000 price tag. Ashburn said the West Jackson Street Convenience Center will get all new paving first.

“We are shooting to pave those on the days off, which is Thursdays,” Ashburn said. “If it happens to run over we’ll put a little ad in the paper and let everybody know but we’re going to try and do it when we’re closed.”

Ashburn said he expects paving to begin in a few weeks. He said Bloomington Springs, Monterey and Burgess Falls Convenience Centers will be resurfaced.

“It varies, I believe of those three, Burgess Falls is the newest addition that we had,” Ashburn said. “It was done around 2010, I believe. The rest of them have the original paving.”

Ashburn said resurfacing and fresh paving is a big boost because of the wear and tear convenience centers take. Ashburn said the work will be split between two companies.
