This Week: Overton, White, Putnam Continue Redistricting Efforts


This week in the Upper Cumberland work on redistricting Overton County continues.

The committee will meet at 3:00 p.m. Monday at the new municipal building. White County also continues redistricting with a meeting at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.

The Cookeville Planning Commission will have a public hearing at 5:30 Monday. The planning department has recommended reopening the connection of Salem Church Road and England Drive.

Members will also consider multiple items up for action or study. A preliminary plat of 33 lots on East Spring Street has been submitted for study by Putnam Contracting Services.

Changes to subdivision regulations could come as well. Planning staff have asked the commission to review guidelines for sidewalks.

The DeKalb County Commission meets Monday at 6:30 p.m.

Monday at 7:00 p.m. the Jackson County Commission will meet at the county courthouse. Commissioners will appoint a new chairman and chair protemp. A property purchase resolution for COVID mitigation will also be considered.

Putnam County’s Redistricting Committee will gather Tuesday for what could be the final meeting before a presentation is brought to the county commission.

Vice-Chair AJ Donadio said two plans are being considered: Twelve Districts with 24 commissioners and six school board members or seven districts with 21 commissioners and seven school board members.
