Local Dollar Tree Prices To Rise, Seeing Shipping Effects

Dollar Tree may no longer follow what the store’s name suggests.

Locations in Tennessee will likely start selling some items for more than a dollar due to shipping costs increasing. Word is spreading to customers such as Cookeville’s Marivic Hawco.

“I think it’s better Dollar Tree stays at the regular price,” Hawco said. “Most people are used to buying their stuff that is really cheap like me. I like going to the store because it is really affordable.”

The store chain reports per-share profits will drop by about $1.50 this year. Tech Student Chioma Onwuchekwa said the price rise is unfortunate.

“It’s a dollar store right?” Onwuchekwa said. “They pretty much have the best prices more or less. Most things from groceries to stationery to even clothes. So, it’s going to be pretty sad if the prices need to go up.”

Cookeville Customer Laurie O’Shea said buying items for a dollar was nice while it lasted. But, if the quality of the store remains the same, O’Shea said she will continue to shop at the location.

“There is a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes, and I get that,” O’Shea said. “If we need to pay a little more to continue to shop, I mean $2 is still a bargain. I get that. I am cool with that.”
