HWY 56 Overpass Repairs Starting In Two Weeks, Completing 11/30

Repairs on the Highway 56 bridge along I-40 that was struck by a tractor trailer will begin within in the next two weeks.

T-DOT Spokesperson Rae-Anne Bradley said a temporary traffic signal will go in to control off-ramp traffic. Bradley said the project is expected to complete by November 30.

“We encourage them to use caution while they’re travelling through the area,” Bradley said. “there will be construction signs in place, as well as a temporary traffic signal. In order to control traffic since they are having to reduce State Route 56 to one lane for these repairs.”

Bradley said the only time I-40 traffic will be affected is on two separate nights, for barrier installation and removal. Bradley said the work includes the bridge deck, bridge beams and overhang.

“The contractor will install a new bridge beam and re-pour a new concrete bridge deck and overhang to support a new parapet rail,” Bradley said. “Once the bridge work is complete, final paving operations will be performed on both sides of the bridge and new pavement markings will be placed.”

Bradley said the project was awarded to Mid-State Construction for roughly $441,968. She said construction signage should be installed this week.
