Monterey Water And Sewer Paving Project Completes Under Budget

Monterey putting the wraps on its water and sewer and paving projects to extend service under I-40.

James C. Hailey and Company CMFO Zeda Hillis said that the town was fortunate they were able to come in some $60,000 under budget

“Because of the time constraints and him coming in under and working faster, we coordinated with TDOT to close down the right of way out there and everything just came in under cost and underestimated than we originally planned with the contract.”

Hillis said that the Appalachian Regional Commission project that extended water and sewer near exit 300 was originally bid at some 68,650 for paving with Rogers Group. She said that the contract price came in at some 60,170.

Hillis said that because the construction costs came in low, they were able to expand the project further, adding several more feet of water and sewer lines than originally planned.

The Monterey Mayor and Board of Alderman voted on amendments at their meeting Monday approving changes that had the project coming in under budget. Hillis said that additional charges were incurred for the inspection of the additional paving projects and the work that was done on the right of way.

“During the course of the project there was an additional $14,415 that was incurred on the water line installation with the sewer line and a separate paving contract that was coordinated with TDOT,” Hillis said. “The additional construction required subsequent inspection work that went over and above the original agreement.”
