Sparta’s Motlow State Campus Hosting Fall Fundraiser Event

Motlow State’s Sparta Campus is hosting its first Fall Fundraiser on Saturday, October 23rd from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

College Advisory Program (CAP) Chair Robert Officer said that the event will be a dinner and music experience, complete with tunes by the Connection Band and food by Town Creek Chuckwagon.

Officer said that they’ve previously fundraised using golf tournaments.

“So we thought that this would be just a nice event for people that don’t necessarily play golf,” Officer said. “That just like to come out and listen to good music and socialize and have a good meal. We kind of figured this would be a nice alternative to a golf tournament.”

Officer said CAP is a program designed to help students on campus with things that aren’t otherwise funded or covered by the Board of Education. He said that this fundraiser will have all proceeds going towards anything that helps their students obtain their associate’s degrees.

“We use that to help with scholarships for books,” Officer said. “Or one thing we’ve got, we’ve got an EMT program and while the tuition is paid through the state, there’s other incidentals that maybe they need. Like maybe a uniform or taking a test, some equipment, and that’s what the money we raise really goes towards is to help the kids and the adults, non-traditional students.”

Officer said that Motlow’s Sparta Campus wants to make a difference in the lives of its students from its own community.

“In the simplest way, every community loves their kids,” Officer said. “And every community wants to provide an education for people so that they can live and work in their own hometown. And for years we’ve had to travel to other counties to get this and we just want our kids and adults in Sparta to have the same opportunities as other communities.”

Officer said tickets cost $30 and are available at the First National Bank or by calling the campus’ main office.
