A benefit for Prescott South Middle School student Layla Ledbetter will be held this Saturday at the school building.
The 11-year-old has been recently diagnosed with brain cancer. Event Coordinator Kelsie Bean said the proceeds from the fundraiser will help the family with medical expenses.
“This is just somebody who we need to gather around and support,” Bean said. “Both hard working parents. This young lady plays soccer at the middle school. Just one of our own in the community that needs lots of love and support right now.”
Bean said Blood Assurance will also be present to collect the blood needs Ledbetter will have. Bean said the blood drive begins at 10:00 a.m. Bean said the silent auction and cake walk begins at 3:00 p.m.
“She has been a rock star through this whole thing,” Bean said. “She is actually going today (Wednesday) for surgery, so prayers are going up for her and her family. She is done with the first round of chemo at this time, but I believe she has five more.”
Bean said the idea for the benefit came from working with Ledbetter’s mother Kasey Ledbetter. Bean said the family has been making several trips to try to beat the cancer.
“Even if you don’t have the money to spend, come out just for the hugs and the visual representation that the community is surrounding her,” Bean said.
