Cane Creek Youth Fields To Get New Fencing

Two youth fields at the Cane Creek Sportsplex are set to get new fencing.

Cookeville Leisure Services Director Rick Woods said the upgrades will hopefully increase the capability for more tournaments in the area.

“Getting new fencing and elevating the fencing, raising the fencing in the outfield,” Woods said. “We can move the home plate out a little ways from the backstops, and that makes it more appealing for fastpitch tournaments. And we’ve had that request from tournament directors.”

The $55,500 project with Cloyd Fencing was approved by Cookeville City Council at their last meeting. Woods said work has already begun removing the current fencing. He said as soon as materials come in, the contractor will begin work on installing posts and the new chain link fence.

Woods said they are hopeful to have the project complete by next baseball season.

“We have Coaches Pitch and T-ball games that go out there for league play and that’ll be in the spring,” Woods said. “So we’re hoping to able to get the materials and get the posts in the ground before Thanksgiving but it may take a little bit longer to get out there and get the entire project completed but certainly before spring and the leagues beginning next spring.”
