Everyone wants to have fun this Halloween weekend, but remember the role safety plays.
Overton County Sheriff John Garrett said there is a multitude of practices to keep families and trick-or-treaters safe.
“Let’s just slow down and be a little bit more vigilant with our driving,” Garrett said. “No one would want to be out driving or on their way home, on their way to church where ever you might be going and then have an incident where a trick-or-treater, a young child may not be paying attention and run out in the road.”
Garrett said children should also wear something reflective, so they can be seen easily. Garrett said placing reflective tape on a child’s arms or legs is a viable option.
Garrett said parents following their trick-or-treaters all the way to the front door decreases the chances of an unwanted situation. Garrett said he suggests that parents visit the websites familywatchdog.us and the TBI sex offender registry when planning your Halloween night.
