Cookeville High School Theater Presents 12 Angry Jurors

Those looking for an on-stage drama this week can come out to Cookeville High School’s depiction of the drama 12 Angry Jurors.

The updated version of the Reginald Rose play 12 Angry Men will have showtimes Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Theater Director Shane Cunningham said the mixed cast will decide if a nineteen-year-old man on trail is guilty or not.

“When the play begins, they take a vote and everyone believes he is guilty except one of the jurors,” Cunningham said. “He does not believe that he can convict without a reasonable doubt. He feels like there is doubt and a possibility. So, it is up to this juror to convince all these people that their prejudices and their ideas about why this kid is guilty are wrong.”

Cunningham said even though the play is from the 60’s, the plot can still be related to trails today. Cunningham said because of this, the set is designed in a way to stay timeless. Student Cayden Webb plays Juror #8.

“I’m the guy who he so kindly just hyped up,” Webb said. “I’m the one who takes that one possibility, and I explain to all the other jurors why I think their reasons are flawed and why I think the kid might not be guilty.”

Student Matthew Green plays Juror #3, who is the last of the jurors to believe the man is guilty. Green said his character is in odds with Juror #8 throughout the performance.

“My character basically, in my mind, is the main antagonists,” Green said. “He literally just does not want to be there, because he has better things to do. He’s actually considered a business man, and he feels like his time is being wasted.”

Cunningham said performances will be held at the Cookeville High School auditorium. House and ticket sales open at 7:00 p.m. each night. Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for adults are $10 and $7 dollars for children.
