Fentress County Highway Department Pursuing Grant For Park Access

The Fentress County Highway Department is pursuing a federal grant for repaving nearly eight miles of road.

Highway Administrator Joey Reagan said this would be through the Federal Lands Access Program. Reagan said the grant would improve access to the Honey Creek Overlook, Big South Fork River and Mount Helen Area.

“If this program can get kicked off, there’s several miles that Fentress County Highway Department can benefit out of this,” Reagan said. “To go along with our budget and stretch our budget further.”

Reagan said they have applied but are in a holding pattern right now. He said the county tried to use state funds the past two years to address these roads but those efforts fell through.
