Leisure Services Accepting Bids For Cane Creek Culvert Widening

Cookeville Leisure Services has opened bids for a Cane Creek culvert widening project.

Director Rick Woods said that widening the culvert will help facilitate work in stabilizing the lake’s north shoreline.

“To be able to get that more effectively and efficiently,” Woods said. “We need to be able to widen what we call the bridge area that gets to that so we can get trucks across sit. And also it’s beginning to be in disrepair anyway so it’s a good time for us to widen that culvert area.”

Woods said that widening the culvert will include extending current pipes, replacing one pipe, and preparing that area to be paved over again with a wider path.

Woods said that part of the path will need to close while the work takes place. He said that after a bid is confirmed, they plan to complete the work over the winter.

“We don’t know exactly how long, and we don’t know exactly when,” Woods said. “We’ll wait until we get the bids opened and schedule the work and then we’ll let the public know when that will be closed for a period of time so we can get that north shoreline stabilized and we don’t lose the trail entirely.”
