UC Habitat For Humanity Rock The Block In Livingston

Upper Cumberland Habitat for Humanity looking for volunteers to help beautify a Livingston neighborhood.

It’s the Rock the Block in Livingston coming November 20th. Volunteer Manager Oliver Wood said the annual cleanup leaves a lasting impact on local homeowners.

“We have about 100 volunteers that come out to help a 30-40 home neighborhood in the Livingston city limits,” Wood said. “We help with gutter cleanup, we rake leaves, we trim hedges and bushes, help clean up some debris and trash that may be in the neighborhood and we really focus on helping senior home owners.”

Wood said the cleanup will last from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Wood said lunch will also be provided from the Livingston Dairy Queen as well as Broast Coffee and a T-shirt.

“It’s a great community centered event especially right before Thanksgiving,” Wood said. “It’s a way we can really give back to our neighbors in Livingston and just show we are thankful for them.”

Wood said the Livingston revitalization began after the Putnam and Overton branches merged to form the Upper Cumberland affiliate. Wood said since 2017, the organization has worked with local churches and sponsors to make the event happen each year. Wood said just one extra volunteer can make a big difference.

“They are just blown away with how much this really helps them out,” Wood said. “Because these are projects they may be too old to get up on a ladder and get into their gutters, so when we come back through those neighborhoods, and you can see the impact it made a year later.”

Sign-ups are open until November 17th at Wood said volunteers are welcome to bring additional gear and machinery to assist. Wood said additional information will be communicated once signing up.
