Spencer Banding Together To Support Local Girl Diagnosed With Leukemia

The Spencer Community is looking to rally behind local kindergartner Charlee Sue Everett in her fight against Leukemia.

Event Organizer Heather Scott said the Spencer Civic Center will host a turkey and dressing dinner, along with an auction on November 20. Scott said Charlee was diagnosed on October 20, and before Scott knew it the community was all Team Charlee.

“I wake up the next morning and I look and people that I don’t know and strangers and everything, like everybody it was just Team Charlee all over my Facebook,” Scott said. “I was like holy moly and then just people reaching out that you’ve never talked to, you’ve never met. It’s like wow… This is what home feels like.”

Scott said the proceeds will help support the family and try covering medical expenses during Charlee’s battle with Leukemia. She said the dinner and auction will be a time to spend together, remembering that we never know what tomorrow brings.

“I want everybody to be able to walk out of there and know her name,” Scott said. “And just know that they did something to help a very good family, they’re very good people.”

Scott said in the lead up to the fundraiser, anyone who cannot attend but would like to help can visit the Citizens Bank in Spencer where an account was created in Charlee’s name. She said the auction still needs support as well.

“I know that businesses sometimes like to put together little gift baskets or different things like that if anybody to we could use those for the auction itself,” Scott said. “Any baked goods, we’re doing a cake walk that day. So if anybody wanted to donate any baked goods, they could do that.”

The event begins at 3:00 PM with the meal, the auction begins at 5:00 PM.

Scott said that doctors are anticipating Charlee will need two and a half years of chemotherapy. Scott said there will be more to come in 2022, with a motorcycle and charity baseball game planned in the spring.
