UCRA Exploring Potential $500K Grant Opportunity For New Hangar

The Upper Cumberland Regional Airport is exploring a potential grant opportunity for a new hangar.

Airport Manager Dean Selby said that an additional hangar will add capabilities for an additional 20 aircrafts, adding to the current 110.

“We’re constantly looking for ways to grow the area and looking for ways to grow the airport to support the area,” Selby said. “And it’s a continual effort. It’s not just a ‘Let’s just do this one thing and get it over with,’ it’s a continual process of growing the airport into what the region needs.”

Selby said that the airport could get up to $500,000, requiring a 50 percent match from the airport. He said that a new hangar would help the airport create a more holistic picture of its aircraft capabilities.

“So we’re not just looking at one specific aspect of airport growth, ” Selby said. “We’re looking at growing freight, growing the 135 charter operations, growing general aviation, and adding commercial service into the mix. We already support the military which is as you know, we just expanded our military operation capabilities here and between all of that, it creates a complete picture rather than just one part of the picture.”

Selby said that he is working on the application with the help of the UCDD. He said that after meeting them today, they are working diligently to get everything together.

Selby said that the grant has an application deadline of December 3rd. He said that if everything were to go through, they would hopefully begin work by next summer.
