Cookeville Rescue Mission Gearing Up For Thanksgiving Meals

Cookeville Rescue Mission is gearing up for a busy Thanksgiving holiday.

Executive Director Bruce Bailey said that the organization is busy prepping for their annual Thanksgiving meal, as well as their meals on wheels program. He said that despite this time of year being hard for some, their work helps to keep spirits up.

“You know I think it comes from our own hearts,” Bailey said. “When we give from our hearts as the Lord instructs us to do, that is very infectious to people and can lift people out of the doldrums.”

Bailey said that the holiday season also brings an influx of generosity from the community. He said that the rescue mission has received so many inquiries about volunteering, they’ve actually had to decline offers for Thanksgiving volunteers.

“I have been inundated with calls just from people who just from their heart they want to help people because it’s Thanksgiving, it’s traditionally known as family time, they are aware that people at the rescue mission are not with family or don’t have a family so they want to help out. In fact, we’ve had so many calls we’ve had to say we can’t take any more volunteers. We’d like to have help with our bell-ringing if you maybe want to volunteer to do that, or look to Christmas or Christmas Eve when we serve another meal.”

Bailey said that the in-person meal will be served on Thursday at 11 a.m. for those who a living at the rescue mission, but all of those in need are welcome.
