The Fairfield Glade Garden Club and Cumberland County High School horticulture program will be holding its annual poinsettia sale.
Co-President Kathy Spancake said the five-day fundraiser begins November 29th.
“Danny Wilson is the educator that we deal with and his class plants the plants in the fall when they come into school and they take care of them and grow them and then we sell them for them,” Spancake said. “Through the sale, we raise funds for our Helena Schmidt Scholarship Fund.”
Spancake said Helena Schmidt was the founder of the garden club. Spancake said Schmidt started the collaboration with the high school some 30 years ago. She said the proceeds help high school seniors pursue higher education fields that benefit the food web.
“They’ll help us with customers and showing us what’s going on and that kind of thing,” Spancake said. “So, it’s fun to be out there with the kids and see what they’re doing and how proud they are of their stations. It’s a wonderful collaboration. I really enjoy it.”
Spancake said the first three days of the sale will be at the high school’s greenhouse. The poinsettias will then move to the Village Green Mall for the last two days. Spancake said gardeners need to bring their own containers to transport purchased plants.
“We have some beautiful poinsettias this year,” Spancake said. “All sorts of different colors. There is red, white, winter rose which is a beautiful poinsettia with curly leaves. We have jingle bell white, just beautiful colors.”
The sale happens Monday through Wednesday, Nov. 29–Dec. 1 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at the Village Green Mall on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 2-3, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The plants will sell for $7 each.
