State Releases HS Graduation Rates, UC Schools See Mixed Bag


The State Department of Education released last school year’s graduation numbers for school districts across the state.

Jackson County Schools saw the biggest jump in the Upper Cumberland. A 7.1 percent increase bringing the graduation rate to 88.5 percent. Putnam County Schools saw a slight increase by about one percent with a graduation rate of 91.9 percent.

Dekalb County School’s rate dropped by 8.3 percent to 83.6 percent of students graduating. Clay and White County Schools decreased slightly while Overton County’s rate stayed about the same.

According to the release, 88.7 percent of students state wide graduated on time this year compared to 89.6 percent last year.
