The Brotherton Free Will Baptist Church keeps the memory of Penny Maxwell alive through its food pantry.
The Penny Maxwell Memorial Food Pantry was established in honor of the Monterey native who passed away in car accident last year. Coordinator Angie Bilbrey said Maxwell was a CRMC home health employee who regularly delivered food to her patients.
“Anybody that needed anything, she was there for them,” Bilbrey said. “It was a great lose. A great lose as a friend, as family and as a community person, she was a great lose.”
Bilbrey said the idea for the food pantry came through prayer. Bilbrey said one morning, the path was revealed to honor Maxwell’s life by giving more.
“I had a dream about it and my husband told me that next morning that he knew what the Lord wanted me to do,” Bilbrey said. “And he told me that. He told me exactly that you’re supposed to open a food pantry and you’re supposed to name it Penny Maxwell Memorial Food Pantry and that’s what we’ve done in honor of her because she has helped so many people.”
Bilbrey said that giving spirit will continue this holiday season. Bilbrey said two more food box events are scheduled for the second Tuesday and third Saturday of December.
“In the day and age that we live, we need each other,” Bilbrey said. “We need to hand out. We need to help others like she did. Be a Penny Maxwell. Make tomorrow a Penny Maxwell. Make tomorrow a Penny Maxwell day. We should all have that giving heart.”
