White Co. 4-H To Host Community Quilts Event For Those In Need

White County’s UT Extension Office will host a Community Quilts made by Friends of 4-H event on Saturday, December 4th.

4-H Agent RoseAnn Dodson said that volunteers will work together to create flannel quilts for those in need. She said that there will be fabric and machines supplied for those who are interested in attending.

“Right now we decided that the easiest way for us to make these quilts is to use 10-inch squares. So you have your top layer and your backing and then of course the batting in between.”

Dodson said that the idea came about after a community member approached her about starting a quilting program with 4-H members. She said that after the success of the program, they decided to turn it into something to benefit the community.

“It’s a service project nad a lot of what we do in 4-H is we promote to our youths the importance of giving back to the community. So this specific service project will involve adults and our 4-H youths.”

Dodson said that they are asking for the community’s participation to help reach their goal of 30 quilts.

“The more hands we have helping each other to complete these quilts the better off it will be for the people who will be receiving these quilts,” Dodson said. “So big in numbers, the more people we have the more quilts we can get done and the more quilts we can hand out to the community.”

Dodson said for those interested in participating to call White County’s UT Extension Office at 931-836-3348. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with light refreshments to be provided.
