TDOT I-40 Resurfacing Near Monterey Substantially Completed

TDOT has completed most of the work for the I-40 East resurfacing through Putnam County.

Community Relations Officer Rae Anne Bradley said that the almost $4.2 million project by Rogers Group includes new markings and reflectors to increase motorists’ safety in that area. She said that the left lane has been marked with “no trucks” to aid in that process.

“So this uphill 2 lane section of I-40 East queues regularly when large tractor-trailer trucks try to pass one another traveling up the mountain and neither vehicle is capable of maintaining the minimum posted speed limits of 45 miles per hour,” Bradley said.

Bradley said that the project extends from Falling Water River to the ramp on State Route 24said that the new reflectors will serve to brighten the area. She said that all upgrades will improve visibility, safety, and operations of the roadway.

Bradley said that because work is substantially completed, the contractors should be removing construction signage and barrels in the next few days. She said that because TDOT is not a law enforcement agency, they do not have jurisdiction to enforce road safety rules, but that if civilians have concerns about traffic to contact local law enforcement.
