UC Regional Airport Board To Consider Grant Application For Hangar

The Upper Cumberland Regional Airport Board will consider a grant proposal tonight to build a hangar.

The special called meeting includes the pre-application for an Appalachian Regional Commission grant to help fund the project. Airport Manager Dean Selby said board approval is needed before the December 3rd deadline.

“We have to look forward to how are we going to build additional storage capacity for these aircraft and how are we going to accommodate the additional growth of the airport,” Selby said. “These grants are important to helping us do that.”

Selby said UCDD notified the airport about the 50/50 match grant that could be up to $1 million. Selby said he feels the airport has a good chance to gain the funding as other municipal airports have utilized the grant for similar projects.

“We’re hopeful and we hope this will kind of fill a void that some of the state funding has left in some of our other avenues that we in the past used to address the situations,” Selby said.

Selby said state funding sources for airports have been changing of recent and caused the airport to rethink how it attacks growth plans. Selby said the airport currently has a waiting list of about 45 people interested in hangar space.
