Byrdstown kicks off the holiday season with two days of festivities starting Friday.
Mayor Sam Gibson said the town will host a market, Christmas caroling and tree lighting at the library starting 5:00 p.m. Friday.
“Last year we missed that due to COVID,” Gibson said. “So, we’re glad to be back doing that again this year. They’ll be a lot of different groups singing, and then, we’ll have some crowd participation in the singing. It’s going to be a fun night.”
Gibson said some 20 vendors will be set up Friday as well as Santa Clause will be in town for family pictures. Gibson said hot dogs, marshmallows and fires to roast will also be available.
The holiday cheer continues Saturday with Byrdstown’s annual Christmas Parade. Gibson said people can gather along West Main Street to view the parade starting at 1:00 p.m.
“It’s a pretty big parade, especially for Byrdstown,” Gibson said. “We have a lot of groups. The town of Byrdstown gives out some prize money for the best floats in different categories. We have decorated cars, tractors and mules and wagons.”
Gibson said the market and Christmas Tree lighting will be at 79 Pickett Square Drive. Gibson said the parade begins at the Pickett County High School and wraps around the county courthouse.
