Clay County EMS employees are a step away from receiving a $1 per hour pay raise.
Clay County’s EMS committee approved the increase at its latest meeting. City Mayor Luke Collins said with the Board of Aldermen’s approval on Tuesday, the action only pends a vote from the full commission.
“Good news is, we’ve had some employees to come back. We’ve hired some new employees. Things seem to be improving greatly,” Collins said. “I certainly, certainly want to thank the county ambulance committee for a unanimous vote.”
The raise will cost the county some $4,300 monthly, according to City Recorder Jeannie Lee. Collins described the Celina EMS staffing situation in November as, “Critical.”
“It would be hard to over emphasize how important our ambulance personnel are and our ambulance, especially because we don’t have a hospital anymore,” Collins said. “The shortage has been scary.”
The county EMS committee is made up of five commissioners. The full county court is made of 10 members in total.
