McMinnville’s Dibrell Memorial Museum is gearing up to become a more active facility after a stagnant period in the community.
President Linda Parris said that after several years as vice president, she saw that there were several things that needed to be addressed. She said that she wanted to sure ensure the museum remained open and a staple figure in Dibrell.
“This is something that I don’t want lost and seeing that was possibly where it was headed,” Parris said. “I have a lot of fond memories from the museum itself. And I did not want my son and younger generations to not have that opportunity, so I guess that is kind of what sparked it.”
Parris said that the museum was started in 1979. She said that over time, fewer people were able to take the time to take charge of the museum and it slowly became less of a community hub.
Parris said that right now they are hoping to raise funds to make some upgrades on the museum. She said that they want a new roof, to update flooring, and do what they can to best preserve items in the museum.
“It is to preserve history from the Dibrell community,” Parris said. “The Dibrell school, Dibrell College, Dibrell High School, and is available to open to visitors as requested and as availability opens up.”
Parris said that they are currently taking donations to raise funds for the museum. She said those interested in donating can mail or drop off a check at 1304 Green Road, Rock Island, TN, 38581. She said they’ll also have a fundraiser at Dibrell Elementary School on January 18th starting at 5:30 p.m.
