Putnam EMA Area Warns Of Road Flooding In Next 24 Hours

Putnam Emergency Management warns of potential road flooding with a strong storm system coming through the area Friday night into Saturday.

EMA Director Tyler Smith said the Wednesday storm produced at least two inches of rain across the area. Similar amounts are possible now in areas that have not had a chance to dry out.

“Being prepared for the street flooding that’s going to be the main concern,” Smith said. “We had a couple of cars that were stranded overnight. So yeah that is a concern coming up this weekend. And with everybody being out for the New Year, that’s something that everybody needs to keep an update on the weather.”

Smith said that as of right now, models aren’t predicting major rainfall near midnight on New Year’s Eve. He said that they expect the heavier rainfall to hit Saturday afternoon.

A Flood Watch has been issued for the northern parts of the Upper Cumberland. Forecasters predict several inches of rain could fall during the next 24 hours, especially in hours where training may occur.
