Putnam Library Board Starts Screening Process For New Director Next Week

The Putnam County Library Board of Trustees has begun the search for a new library director.

Former director Phil Schaller has resigned. Board Chair Harry Ingle said a subcommittee will begin application screenings Monday.

“We’re really looking for someone that obviously has experience in a library system,” Ingle said. “At least three years within a public library system, demonstrated some level of managerial expertise and have the ability to work with people.”

Ingle said the subcommittee will pass on candidates that cleared the first stage to the full board. Ingle said the goal is to have the position filled as soon as possible while an interim director holds the job.

“We’re not in a rush to fill it, but we would ideally like for it to be filled as soon as possible,” Ingle said. “But, we also want to be diligent in the process and make sure we don’t rush through it, as well.”

Ingle said the Fallen Water Regional Library via the state system has helped during the process. The library serves the Upper Cumberland and has helped spread awareness of the vacancy position nationwide.

“We still welcome anyone that is interested to apply,” Ingle said. “It’s easy to find. The job description is out on the Putnam County Library.”
