Geo-Study To Determine Final Location Of Putnam’s Lee Seminary School

A geotechnical study will determine the final location of Putnam County’s newest school.

The Putnam Board of Education approved a $17,500 contract with GeoServices Wednesday. Architect Kim Chamberlin said the company will study the Lee Seminary Road property for voids below the surface.

“We can maximize staying out of those areas, but also minimize getting into wetland areas,” Chamberlin said. “It’s a little bit of a push and pull. The site plan you have seen to date will still be pretty much intact. Just a matter if we shift the building 50 feet in one direction or the other.”

The school system originally surveyed the site with the same company before purchasing the property. Chamberlin said now that a design is ready, the company saw a need for additional investigation.

“With that then, Geoservices will provide recommendation on what we do if we find those and what we do to remediate those,” Chamberlin said.

Chamberlin said the typical process to fill a void is to use low strength concrete. Chamberlin said the wetland areas on the property have already been outlined.
