Fentress Pursuing $461K In Grants For Confinement Facilities

Fentress County is pursuing some $461,000 worth of equipment through an ELC grant for confinement facilities.

Executive Jimmy Johnson said that the grant would cover things from HVAC system upgrades to a new X-Ray metal detector.

“The person will walk up on this, they’ll turn just like an x-ray when they’re going to the doctor’s,” Johnson said. “There’ll be no hands-on to it. So it will really lessen the chances, 90-95 percent, that your arresting deputy or CO officer there at the jail there will contract anything from any person that has any kind of disease or COVID or anything.”

Johnson said that they also hope to cover laptops with the grant funding. He said that need has greatly increased since the start of the pandemic.

Johnson said that the county is hopeful that they will receive at least part of the funding they’ve asked for. He said that they hope to hear back from the Department of Health within the next several weeks.
