Monterey Students Create Merch Celebrating School Director And Snow Days

Putnam County students and families can get some new gear for snow days paying homage to Director of Schools Corby King.

The t-shirts and cups read, “All Hail The King Has Called,” referring to when King calls for school closures. Monterey High School Teacher Hollie Childress said the 7th and 8th grade school-based enterprise group came up with the idea.

“We wanted to do something fun and boost ourselves and get our name a little bit more out in the community through the school system,” Childress said. “So we thought what a better way than to make a shirt.”

Childress said the enterprise class serves as a business where students learn aspects of the industry. The shirts and cups made and designed by students serve as its latest product on the market.

“You have a couple of students that are super creative,” Childress said. “They came up with this idea and we decided the most useful things would be a t-shirt and a mug. The students came up with that idea choosing everthing from the colors of the shirt to the font and design.”

T-shirts and cups are for sale now with proceeds going back to the school based enterprise. Childress said the money will bring more materials and gear for students to grow the, “MHS Catshop,” where the items are made.

“We actually just got an embroidering machine, so we are learning how to use that,” Childress said. “So just more materials for ideas that they come up with for things to do in the classroom.”

The King family has already been seen sporting the new attire. If you want a shirt or nug for yourself, contact Childress at Mhs Catshop. Shirts cost $15 and cups $10.
