Overton County has received a State Arts Commission grant to buy new audio gear for public events at the Livingston Square.
County Executive Ben Danner said the county looks to purchase an audio system that’s meant for crowds of at least 5,000 people.
“Like Fall-o-ween we have several thousand people, so this PA system will be able to be used for that,” Danner said. “Plus, everybody turns out. We have several hundred for the Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day event.”
Danner said the equipment is portable so it can be used at the fairgrounds or any other events in town. Danner said the county will get quotes for the equipment and hopefully make a purchase by Memorial Day.
“We don’t have to bid that one out, but we’re going to get quotes on it,” Danner said. “We’re looking at several months to get the equipment.”
Danner said current equipment at the courthouse has been used for over 50 years. Danner said he sees the gear as a real boost to activities in Overton County.
“The city of Livingston has really done a good job with upgrading everything around the square and having events there,” Danner said. “Our Christmas Tree Lighting we have several hundred people come when they have Christmas in the Country. Just a whole lot of events happening in the square that ties in.”
