Cookeville Hosting Public Drop-In Meeting For Input On Aquatics Facility

Cookeville Leisure Services wants feedback on ideas for the upcoming aquatics facility project.

Director Rick Woods said that the department will host a public meeting on Tuesday, January 25th. He said that it will be an opportunity for the community to see what’s possible for the facility and rank their favorites.

“For example do we want fitness rooms, do we want splash pads, do we want a zero-depth entry, do we want slides,” Woods said. “What are the things the public is most interested in seeing.”

Woods said that community members can drop in from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Cane Creek Recreation Center. He said that there will be representatives from architectural firm Lose Designs to discuss the presented ideas.

Woods said that nothing has been narrowed down or decided for the facility thus far. He said that it’s important that the city make those decisions based on what the locals want to see.

“You want to build something that the public is anxious to use and can get excited about,” Wood said. “You know if you’re building something that the public is not interested in utilizing then you’ve wasted a lot of time and money. So it’s very vital that we do that and we hear from the public to know what their desires are.”
