The Livingston Overton Chamber of Commerce expects Pioneer Days to happen this year.
The event highlighting the past times of Overton County has been cancelled two years in a row due to COVID. Executive Director Shannon Cantrell said the plan is to return the third weekend of June.
“We had a good six months of planning behind us when we ended up having to cancel it for 2020,” Cantrell said. “So, we’ll take everything that we’ve already discussed, make a few phone calls and we’ll be able to probably move into the planning fairly quickly.”
Cantrell said the planning committee wants to keep the event as authentic as possible. Cantrell said the event would focus on the early days of Overton County and showcase skills such as blacksmithing and quilt making.
“I’m ready, and I’m sure everybody else is ready to get this event going again,” Cantrell said. “I think it will be a lot of fun, and our community will definitely enjoy it.”
Cantrell said the committee also wants live music on the square in Livingston. Cantrell said Gene Gantt serves as committee chair. A variety of business owners and political leaders also make up the group.
“If everything goes as it was being planned last time, we’ll have two stages,” Cantrell said. “We’ll have stuff at the park. We’ll have a stage at the square. It’s just going to be a great time to celebrate our history.”
