HRS Reopens Celina Wait List For Affordable Housing

Highlands Residential Services has reopened applications for low-income housing in Celina.

Director of Operations Chris Cassetty said the portal closed in the fall due to large waiting lists.

“I think we have a couple that are coming available,” Cassetty said. “Certainly since we have opened the waiting list, we may have even had some people come in and apply that I am unaware of.”

Cassetty said Celina was one of the smaller waiting lists of the housing authority when it decided to shut down applications. Cassetty said areas such as Cookeville had people waiting over a year for housing.

“Not just the number of the waiting lists but the time frame,” Cassetty said. “Even here in Cookeville and some of our other towns Baxter is an example as well. Most people that are on top of the waiting list for better than a year. That’s really tough. It’s unfair in my mind.”

Cassetty said the reopening of applications for other areas will likely not happen in the near future

Cassetty said the authority has 34 apartments in Celina located at Green Street, River Avenue and Cordell Hull Avenue. Cassetty said you can contact the Cookeville office to apply.
