Algood Approves First Reading Of Algood Ball Fields League Fees

The city of Algood is setting up its first league fees for the Algood Ball Fields.

Mayor Lisa Chapman-Fowler said that the city recently regained possession of the ball fields from the county.

“Since we are now in charge of these fields, to offset the expense of the same, we have discussed a fee collection of the $500 per month for use of the facilities,” Chapman-Fowler said

City Administrator Keith Morrison said that the fee will be strictly for league use. He said that it will not apply to those from the public who wish to use the ball fields leisurely.

“There will also be a structured agreement put together for usage to protect the city and ensure that the leagues are run appropriately and that we have high-quality programs for our youths to attend and participate in,” Morrison said. “So this fee was set at we felt was s reasonable number as to not push away, league activities but to also get a little bit of skin in the game so that they have some sense of responsibility and understand that they’re going to help take care of those and maintain them. And running the big lights for the ball games does get quite expensive so we’re just starting to figure those fees out since this is our first year of owning the parks.”

Chapman-Fowler said that as this is the first year they are navigating this kind of usage agreement, it could be amended as needed.

“We can start here and if it needs to be amended at some point we can always do that,” Chapman-Fowler said. “But I think hearing what the electric usage has been and, when no one has really been over there, this is certainly not overcharging by any means.”
