Overton Commission Acknowledges Debt Obligation For Ambulance Purchase

Overton County has acknowledged the debt obligation for the purchase of ambulances using funding from the USDA.

County Executive Ben Danner said that the grant loan is $200,000, with fifty percent of that grant money. He said that the commission acknowledging this grant loan allows the county to purchase a new ambulance, which is a huge need.

“We’ve added two or three more crews and now we’ve got extra ambulances since we purchased this one,” Danner said. “And we’re the only hospital in the counties joining us other than Cookeville Regional. So right now, it’s really important. We’re helping cover part of Clay County, and helping cover part of Pickett County, and Fentress, and Jackson.”

Danner said that the USDA required the county commission to acknowledge the debt obligation. He said that the county is looking at turning that debt right around and paying it off quickly.

Danner said that with Cookeville Regional having to divert some patients and the ambulance service center getting upgrades, an additional ambulance is a huge help. He said that the next step is to order the vehicle and wait for it to arrive.

“And right now, if anybody is trying to buy a vehicle it’s a bad time,” Danner said. “We’ve got some ambulances ordered it’s just, you know everybody is waiting on them. It’s a six, eight, ten-month process when it used to be two or three, sometimes it’s over a year. We do already have some of the ambulances in, so we should have another one coming in real soon.”
