Algood Granted Easement To Create Second Walmart Entrance

Algood has secured the needed easement to create a second entrance to Walmart.

City Administrator Keith Morrison said the proposed project would extend Big Mac Drive attaching a roadway to the back end of the parking lot.

“We’re working on our permitting with TDEC,” Morrison said. “Once those permits are final and approved and issued, then we’ll have a project ready to go to bid and select a bidder and bring it back to council. Let them approve it and start moving forward with construction phasing.”

Morrison said the second entrance would relieve traffic issues. Morrison said turning left onto Main Street from Big Mac Drive can be a challenge. The second entrance would allow drivers to go through the Walmart parking lot and exit at the stores red light.

“A lot of times it is a very difficult turn to make depending on how heavy the traffic is,” Morrison said.

Algood approved the project almost two years ago but could not begin moving forward until Walmart agreed with the easement. Morrison said the cooperation was always in agreement, but getting the language right was a lengthy process.

“It was just a matter of working out the details and how the easement would work and who is responsible for what,” Morrison said. “That has to go back and fourth to each entity through legal representation, so it takes longer to work out.”
