Foundation work for the Putnam County Jail expansion set to begin next month.

Sheriff Eddie Farris said the new additional parking has been completed. Farris said that means vehicles in the lower parking lot where the expansion will be built can now be moved.

“Once they get out of the way, and we’re able to move all of our equipment and close this lower parking lot, then you’ll start seeing a foundation sometime around March,” Farris said. “Once you see that happen, you’ll see some real work going on.”

Farris said an unrelated roofing project must also be completed before foundation work begins. Farris said once the lower parking lot closes, a parking area on East Spring Street and Maple Avenue will open for those with business at the Justice Center.

“We’ll announce that, and we’ll have signs but probably sometime around March,” Farris said.

Farris said the expansion is on pace to be completed late 2023. The $52.7 million jail expansion project will bring the facility to over 600 beds.
