McMinnville’s Dream Reality Group presents, “Matilda,” a musical based on the novel of the same name by Roald Dahl.
Director Logan Taylor said that Dream Reality Group was established in 2014. He said that over the last seven years, they’ve performed almost 20 musicals.
“We really pride ourselves on creating quality theatre experiences,” Taylor said. “I think sometimes people think, you know, ‘McMinnville, Tennessee? Surely not.’ But we’re really proud of what we’ve created. We like our patrons to experience a quality theatre experience and we pride ourselves on taking normal people, normal kids, and bringing out a professional side to them.”
Taylor said that they decided to go with Matilda because it’s a show for all ages. He said that the main message is about overcoming one’s circumstances, just like Matilda does in the story.
“She’s able to take all these situations and spin them into good and stand up for what she believes in,” Taylor said. “And in the end, it works out. So it’s going to be a good reminder, and a gentle way of saying, ‘Hey, even if you are small, you are big and you can take up all the space you need to.’”
Taylor said that the 45-person cast has been working diligently to put together a professional performance. He said that “Matilda” is one of the most complex shows he’s ever put on.
“Music and the choreography are top-notch,” Taylor said. “We have an excellent production team of artists who are creating the set and the costumes and the wigs, lots of special effects. It’s full-out a musical show experience, so lots of really interesting and really unique production elements.”
