Monterey Aldermen React To Reels Announcement

Monterey Alderman Nathan Walker said that Mayor Reel’s announcement came as a surprise.

He said that while he didn’t know that Reels had health issues so severe, he wishes him the best and is thankful for their time serving together.

“You know I’m proud of a lot of the projects that we’ve been able to work together on and that have benefited the town here love the last several years,” Walker said. “I just wish him the best. I definitely understand the importance of maintaining our health these days.”

Walker said that following Reel’s departure, it’s time for the Monterey community to come together to support one another. He said that he believes that he and the board will take the chance to chat with one another and keep moving Monterey forward.

Alderman Bill Wiggins said that he wasn’t able to attend Friday morning’s meeting, but was only somewhat surprised by the news. He said that upon learning the information his first thoughts went to Vice-Mayor Mark Farley.

“He is a very able and knowledgeable individual and has served the town of Monterey for many years,” Wiggins said. “I’m sure he will fill the vacancy and we won’t miss a beat.”

Reels will make an official statement of his resignation at Monday night’s board meeting.
