The York Lady Dragons advanced to the second round of the girls state championship Tuesday.
Four other Upper Cumberland teams await their first games. That includes the Van Buren County Girls Basketball team.
Principal Katina Simmons said the school’s excitement can be felt leading up to Thursday’s game.
“Everybody is super excited,” Simmons said. “The students are already when they have some free time during breaks or lunch they’ve been making signs and posters and just different things to support.”
Simmons said this is just the second time in program history the girl’s team has made it to the state tournament. Simmons said seeing the student athlete’s hard work pay off has been exciting to see.
The Eaglettes play 10:00 a.m. at MTSU against Dresden.
