Van Buren Schools Approve $120K Paving Project Through State Grant

Van Buren School Board will invest some $120,000 in paving work at the system’s schools.

Director Cheryl Cole said that paving and striping are a massive need for the system. She said that they’ve just been resurfacing the lots as needed until this point.

“The striping is in bad shape, people don’t know where to park because they can’t see the lines,” Cole said. “So we’re very excited. And this is coming out of our ELC grant from the state. The bids are a little higher than what we have in there right now, but we can come up with the rest of that.”

Cole said the work will start as soon as school gets out for the summer. She said that once work begins, the contractors have 30 days to complete it. Cole said paving and striping will take place at each school.

“It’ll be at the elementary school in the front, the high school in the front, and the backlot for the pre-K,” Cole said.  “Most of it is just in the back parking lot, so that way we if we have to test and do COVID tests, we can go out and those people can pull there and don’t have to come into the school. It just makes it safer for everybody.
