Cookeville Will Explore Plans To Renovate Fire Station 1

City of Cookeville is looking to make updates and renovations at the Cookeville Fire Department located at city hall.

City Manager James Mills said that the city will enter into an agreement for architectural and engineering services relative to those renovations.

“Funds were included in this year’s budget for the development of plans to either reconstruct or renovate Cookeville Fire Stations 2 and 3,” Mills said. “And after discussions with Chief Young, we determined that renovations to Fire Station 1 here at City Hall should be the first priority.”

Mills said that with so much work already done to update city hall itself, he believes it makes sense to finish the updates by working on Station 1.

Mills said that the deliverables from the agreement include the development of an existing floor plan and a report of what things might need repairs, and a budgeted probable cost. Mills said that the agreement itself will cost some $5,300.

“Their restrooms, their sleeping quarters, their storage areas, it definitely needs upgrades,” Mills said. “Part of the reason here is that one we now have female firefighters and we need to make some changes for that. And then also we’ve done so much at city hall, this is one of the last things we need to do to get it modernized with the rest of city hall/”
