Stephens Center Hosting Community Baby Shower In Jackson

The Stephens Center of Jackson County is hosting its first-ever Community Baby Shower Monday evening.

The Center works to promote healthy, nurturing families through appropriate home-visiting, parenting classes, and community education programs. Family Support Specialist Brandy Denson said that Jackson County is one of several new locations for the Stephens Center.

“We just wanted to offer this community some better resources,” Denson said. “And we wanted to just put our name out there and we wanted to offer these opportunities for these new moms or dads or someone who’s recently had a child. There’s going to be games, gifts, door prizes. We’re going to do cake and refreshments.”

Denson said that it will also help connect new moms with other new moms to form support systems or get any questions they might have answered. She said that they plan on using the event to introduce themselves to the Jackson community and showcase all of their resources for new parents.

“We are 100 percent free,” Denson said. “We are funded by the health departments in the local areas and we’re also sponsored by Healthy families America. So we’re all about promoting mom and dad relationship with baby, and if this is your first time being a parent or anything like that or if you’re under the age of 20, we can help you develop new skills and help you keep up with milestones and any developmental techniques or anything we can help with, we are that support.

“If you need help with pack-and-plays or diapers or anything like that, we’re going to redirect you and keep you in with the resources of the community. That’s what we’re here to do is be a connector to help you get the resources you need.”
