State Comptrollers Office Finds Issues In White Schools Transportation Dept

An investigation by the State Comptrollers Office found malfeasance inside the White County Schools Transportation Department.

The report released Monday looked at the period from June, 2017 through September, 2021. The report found the transportation director allowed employees to use department-owned tools and facilities to work on personal vehicles. The director also allowed employees to leave early without using vacation time. The time sheets did not reflect time worked.

The investigation also found the director purchased a car for his daughter at GovDeals.Com using his White County account.

“Although transaction records indicated the vehicle was sold to the White County, investigators determined that the vehicle is owned by and registered to the department supervisor’s daughter,” the report said. “Investigators also confirmed that no White County funds were utilized in the purchase of the vehicle.”

The report said the school system and school board failed to provide adequate oversight of operations. The comptroller said more detailed rules need to be put in place to prevent the issues going forward.
