Cookeville And Texas Roadhouse Partnering On Tree Giveaway

City of Cookeville partnering with the Arbor Day Foundation and Texas Roadhouse in a tree giveaway this Wednesday at Texas Roadhouse’s Interstate Drive location.

Urban Forester Jaime Nunan said that the partnership first came about three years ago after the tornado. She said that its efforts have since continued to restore Cookeville’s trees.

“The devastation of losing trees has all kinds of negative effects on our environment,” Nunan said. “In the urban areas you’re going to see an increase in the heat island effect. So what that is is increased temperatures in our area due to the amount of concrete in our area, so we put the trees back to kind of shade the area. [Trees] help to clean our and to clean our water.”

Nunan said that there will be a mix of native shade trees and flowering trees including Yoshino cherry trees, tulip poplar, and red maple. She said that they will have two free trees available per person.

Nunan said that she recommends arriving at Texas Roadhouse on the earlier side, as they have been known to run out. She said that the event begins at 11.
