Cookeville-Putnam NAACP Celebrates Judge Jackson’s Confirmation At Friday Rally

History was made Thursday as the US Senate confirmed Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson into the Supreme Court.

Cookeville-Putnam NAACP Branch President Tom Savage said the organization will hold a rally Friday celebrating the first black female Supreme Court Justice.

“We celebrate to see that the court will represent Americans,” Savage said. “It will represent the city that we live in. It’s good to see that where you have little young girls can look at the Supreme Court and see someone that looks like them and give them aspiration.”

Savage said the event begins at 2:00 p.m. at the Putnam County Courthouse. Savage said Branch Vice-President Johnnie Wheeler and Pastor Diantha McCloud will speak.

“Miss Johnnie Wheeler who is an activist, a person running for office and well-known in our community, she will kick it off,” Savage said. “Women will be highlighted cause the day belongs to them. Then we will have a Methodist Pastor Miss Diantha McCloud will speak, and anything the NAACP does begins and ends with prayer.”
